We are delighted to announce M. Sunflower as the winner of the George’s River Council Art Competition 2022. Her work ‘Rainbow Wildflowers’ has been selected for use in the design of Georges River Council’s Disability Inclusion and Action Plan.

“If you look into the history of abstraction, it always seems to rise when the world is in turmoil. Using colour and abstract mark making, I transmute the present moment of pain into a pathway towards future regeneration,” say M. Sunflower.

Georges River Council is seeking submissions of existing artwork from artists across NSW with disability or who are d/Deaf.

One artwork will be selected for use in the design of Georges River Council’s Disability Inclusion and Action Plan and the chosen artist will receive $2000.

Artworks can be submitted across a range of disciplines and styles but must be 2D work.

This visual art project enables professional artists with disability or who are d/Deaf to develop new works which will be screened at the the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia to help celebrate International Day of People with Disability.

Two artists will be selected and will receive $11,500 in grant funding as well as a professional mentorship with experienced video artist Dr Zanny Begg. An additional $9000 of in-kind production support is available from our partnering organisations Bus Stop Films and Western Sydney community creative hub A.C.E.
