As part of Celebrating 40 Years of Accessible Arts, we’re presenting Art Tours at the Art Gallery of NSW led by two hilarious comedians with disability.

Don’t miss Imaan Hadchiti and Alice Tovey as they provide unique perspectives and deep insights into The Edge of Things – an Art Gallery of NSW exhibition which explores the ways in which artists give form to the dynamism and disorder of our contemporary world.

Inspired by late sculptor Phyllida Barlow’s quote, “I like the edges of things … There’s a sort of nervousness about where the periphery of the work is,” this exhibition foregrounds the affirmative energy of art-making by revealing how artists take on uncertainty, both in and outside the studio.

About the Comedians

Imaan Hadchiti

Original, bold, and unapologetically authentic, Imaan Hadchiti is a daring, comedian with a razor-sharp wit and a knack for tackling the topics others avoid. A powerhouse performer who’s as sharp as he is fearless. Imaan has been described as Un-cancellable so it is his duty to use his powers try find some logic in this preposterous world. Standing at just 3.5 ft, Imaan holds a Guinness World Record, for ‘The Worlds Second Shortest Comedian’. Finally, all of his hard work of breathing and continuing to exist has paid off. As a shameless, self promoting, independent artist, there is an obligation to mention that in his career is going really well performing and acting in some cult hits.

Alice Tovey

Alice Tovey (she/they) is a comedian, writer, singer-songwriter, award winning film maker and purveyor of fine grot. Once a classically trained opera diva, now a cult cabaret mainstay. Alice is a writer and segment producer on Gruen, Question Everything and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering at the ABC. She’s a regular essayist for the Sydney Morning Herald, and has had her silly musings published in major publications from PedestrianTV, to the Guardian, and beyond.

Their critically acclaimed comedy hours are a blend of stand up, storytelling and song. Their inaugural comedy hour Malice earned them a nomination for Best Emerging Artist at the Adelaide Fringe. She’s an Adelaide Fringe Fund Recipient for her show Not Like the Other Ghouls, a QPAS nominated songwriter and playwright (alongside her long-time collaborator Ned Dixon) for her work in musical theatre, a Greenroom Award nominee for Best Original Songs and Musical Direction, and an AWGIE nominee for her work in comedy writers’ room ensembles.

Her short film, Hen, toured festivals around Australia, the USA, and Europe and won Best Victorian Short at Monster Fest 2022. She is currently developing an anthology of horror stories for screen.
