Artists, Arts Workers & Researchers Invited To Get Involved In National Arts & Disability Conference

We’re excited to be calling for expressions of interest from people who would like to participate in our upcoming Arts Activated 2021 conference as presenters, speakers or panellists.

Arts Activated 2021 is Australia’s leading forum for increasing access to arts, culture and events for artists and audiences with disability or who are d/Deaf. It’s a biennial event produced by Accessible Arts, NSW’s peak arts and disability organisation. The event attracts over 300 delegates including artists with disability, workers/advocates in the arts, disability and community sectors, and researchers, scholars and students.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s conference will be a mostly virtual event with some live components spread over three Mondays in August: Aug 9, 16 & 23.

And also because of the pandemic, the theme of this year’s event will be ‘Building Back For Everyone’ with a focus on how the post-COVID response of creative industries can help advance access and inclusion for arts practitioners and audiences with disability.

Accessible Arts Interim CEO Morwenna Collett: “We’re excited to be getting underway with this year’s Arts Activated conference by inviting artists, arts workers and other people working at the intersection of arts, culture and disability to contribute to this important event by submitting an expression of interest to participate as a speaker, presenter or panellist for one of our 10 virtual conference sessions.”

“This year’s conference is all about building back inclusively from the COVID-19 pandemic so we’re interested in content which aligns with this goal and its associated themes. There’s more information about these themes on our website.”

“We’re also excited about partnering for the first time ever with Western Sydney University with our virtual conference sessions being broadcast live from our conference studio at WSU’s Parramatta campus. So if you’re a presenter based in Sydney, you’ll be able to join the panel live at the WSU studio in Parramatta. If you’re outside Sydney, you’ll be able to join via Zoom.”

“The conference only happens every two years so don’t miss your chance to be part of this exciting opportunity.”
