Disability and Access Consultant

Join the Accessible Arts team! We’re recruiting for a Disability and Access Consultant.

Accessible Arts provides Arts and Disability Consultancy Services, working with organisations to identify and understand the issues around access and inclusion. We are seeking passionate and knowledgeable consultants to contribute to the delivery of these services.

Accessible Arts works with a range of clients to assist them in making their programs and services more inclusive and accessible. We provide a range of services including:

  • Reviewing and writing Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPS)
  • Access Audits
  • Website Audits & Digital Accessibility
  • Accessible Content Management

Through this work, we identify barriers to access that impact upon artists, audiences, and staff with disability. To undertake the work around DIAPs and access appraisals, we use consultants who work directly for Accessible Arts and with our clients to deliver the required project. Examples of consultant projects we have conducted in 2021 include development of DIAPs for City of Sydney, Sydney Festival and the National Gallery of Australia. The requirements for each project differ, and Accessible Arts will work closely with consultants to ensure a high-quality product is delivered to the client.

Key tasks that a consultant might undertake are:

  • Desktop research
  • Document review
  • Venue walkthrough
  • Interviews or focus groups with clients and stakeholders
  • Development of an online survey
  • Analysis of survey results
  • Report writing
  • Meetings and presentations

Specific Duties

  • To deliver high quality consulting services on behalf of Accessible Arts
  • To provide clear, concise and relevant information (written and verbal) to Accessible Arts and the client
  • To promote a positive image of Accessible Arts
  • Act in a professional manner and maintain a positive working relationship with organisations and individuals involved in consulting projects

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this opportunity you must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of adult education principles
  • An ability to appraise an organisation’s policies and practice confidently and holistically in relation to access for people with disability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the arts and disability sector

The following criteria is considered desirable for this role:

  • Certificate IV in Access Consulting
  • Knowledge and understanding of the arts and disability sector and accessibility practices
  • Previous consultancy experience (such as report writing, auditing etc)
  • Lived experience of disability
  • Experience working in one or more artforms
