Accessible Arts Community Celebration

Join in the Community Celebrations

To celebrate International Day of People with Disability and in conjunction with the opening of the new building at the Art Gallery of NSW, we will be hosting an Accessible Arts Community Celebration on Wednesday 7 December at the gallery.

This full day of free and creative events provides an opportunity for you to connect with other artists, delve into their practice and join in our final Access Ideas and Insights panel for the year as we discuss Innovations in Creative Access.

All of these events are free to attend and no bookings are required.

Community Celebrations by Front Up Studios

Gain insights from artists with disability as they share their experiences of the Front Up Studio Emerge Program. This engagement project between the Art Gallery and Front Up Studios was founded by Ability Options and connects professional artists and emerging artists with disability, and showcases their work in community-based projects in public spaces.

This event will be Auslan interpreted and is wheelchair accessible.

Studio A Drop-In Workshop

Studio A is a supported studio based in Sydney that tackles the barriers artists with intellectual disability face in accessing conventional education, professional development pathways and opportunities needed to be successful and renowned visual artists. Studio A artists Catherine McGuiness, Mathew Calandra and Meagan Pelham (all prior Archibald Prize and Sulman Prize finalists) have a love for costume and will dress as their favourite alter-egos in their own self styled costumes – one includes a duck! Workshop guests are invited to draw the artists using mark making techniques the artists themselves use.

This event will be Auslan interpreted and is wheelchair accessible.
