Artists are invited to take their careers to the next level by being part of Emerge 2018, an exciting initiative from Front Up, starting June 12.

What’s it all about?

Participants who are selected for the Emerge 2018 program will visit the Art Gallery of New South Wales on June 19 and, and immerse themselves in a number of the Gallery’s unique collections including the Spacemakers and Roomshakers installations as well as the Archibald, Wynn and Sulman Prizes 2018 exhibition. The group will spend time with professional art educators to gain unique insights into the work.

Artists will then participate in professionally-led once-a-week workshops. These will take place on Tuesdays until 5 September at the Front Up hub in Seven Hills. Throughout the workshops, artists will respond to works which they would have seen and reflected upon at the Art Gallery. The group will create a collaborative artwork.

Who is this program for?

Emerge is a program for artists with mental health concerns and/or disability.

What else is involved?

On September 5, participants will be offered a unique opportunity to deliver a panel discussion at the Art Gallery on the Emerge program’s professional development processes.

There will be the opportunity to engage with audiences while delivering talks around the Spacemakers and Roomshakers installations.

There will also be professional development opportunities with Artspace, as well as the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with resident artists and arts workers at Parramatta Artists Studios

Perhaps most significantly, there will be an exhibition of the artists’ collaborative work at Front Up in the early part of 2019.
