2020 Inclusive Film Festival Spotlights Talent Of Artists With Disability

This year’s 4th annual Inclusive Film Festival in Sydney’s Inner West is set to feature a totally FREE and fabulous program of disability-focused screen and stage entertainment to mark this year’s International Day Of People With Disability.

Presented by the Inner West Council in partnership with Accessible Arts and other local organisations, IFF is a live, COVID-safe and fully accessible event at Petersham Town Hall on Friday 4 December from 6pm – 10:30pm. It will also be live streamed for the first time ever via Fan Force. Register: www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au/IFF

The program features a screening of critically acclaimed and award-winning US film The Peanut Butter Falcon along with live acts by performers with disability plus a panel discussion about the intersection of art and disability activism.

Guests at the live event will receive FREE snack packs, popcorn, chocolates and soft drinks. Guests will also be able to bring their own drinks and snacks if they want and have an indoor picnic in the hall.

In terms of accessibility, there’ll be audio description, Auslan interpreters, closed captions, accessible seating, hearing loops and a quiet zone. Assistance animals will be welcome.

The International Day Of People With Disability is an important opportunity to acknowledge, honour and celebrate people with disability and the vital contributions they make to arts and culture here in Australia and throughout the world. Accessible Arts has programmed the panel and live performances for this year’s IFF. We hope lots of people will enjoy this year’s festival which promises to be a memorable night of wonderful disability-focused entertainment.

Live Panel | 6pm

The live panel will explore the topic of ‘Are artists with disability leaders for change?’ and will feature award-winning First Nations writer Gayle Kennedy, performer and policymaker Paul Nunnari, LGBTIQ+ writer and activist Jax Jacki Brown and academic and activist Hannah Solomons. Director, writer and broadcaster Anthea Williams will moderate the discussion.

Live Performances | 7pm

The live performances will feature comedian Madeleine Stewart (Tonightly, The Last Leg, Crips & Creeps), singer Lara Nakhle (The Voice) and a performance of Karim’s Mojo Disco by motivational non-speaker and Don’t Dis My Ability campaign ambassador Abdul-Karim Bouchafaa.

Film Screening | The Peanut Butter Falcon | 8pm – 10:30pm

Starring Zack Gottsagen and Shia LaBeouf, The Peanut Butter Falcon follows the adventures of a man with Down syndrome who runs away from a residential nursing home to pursue his dream of becoming a pro wrestler.
