What is the Arts & Disability Action Strategy?
The Arts & Disability Action Strategy will provide an overall picture of the creative and artistic needs and interests of NSW. It will identify gaps in services and any barriers to cultural and creative skills development. Consultation is key to the planning process. Actions are developed as a result of ideas and thoughts provided by individuals and organisations who participate in consultations. The Arts & Disability Action Strategy will be a living document that should be monitored and reviewed on a regular basis. Actions are developed rather than strategies as the word ‘action’ suggests actual implementation of solutions to identified needs.
Why develop an Arts & Disability Action Strategy?
This Action Strategy will aim to review and develop arts and cultural opportunities for people with a disability in NSW. Accessible Arts and the arts and disability sectors in NSW will be able to use this Action Strategy to identify how far we have come and where we need to go in the future to continue: filling the gaps in creative services, facilities, and opportunities; and breaking down barriers to the active engagement of people with a disability in the arts industry. This Action Strategy will help guide Accessible Arts strategic plans and future projects. It will also tie into other relevant strategies and policies of organisations and government agencies in NSW.
Upcoming Regional Consultations
Previous consultations have been held with South Coast and Central West communities at Moruya Showgrounds and Orange Civic Theatre with thanks to Monika McInerney, Eurobodalla Shire Council and Hannah Semler, Arts OutWest.
