Call Out :: Aspiring filmakers and actors of all abilities
Kino Sydney is now calling for participants for KINO KABARET UK, a series of filmmaking workshops, screenings and parties taking place across Sydney July 14 – 19 2008. Participants will team-up to write, shoot and edit short films during 48-hour sessions, culminating in a screening and party in honor of the participants.
Artistic Director Matt Ravier explains: “Kino encourages participants to learn about the craft of filmmaking by creating short videos, unshackled by the burden of resources, time and money. Kino provides filmmakers of all skillset, background, ability and experience with a support network to write, shoot and edit their projects as well as an opportunity to show the work to a large audience.”
According to Ravier, “What makes Kino Kabaret special is its mix of participants: amateurs mix with award-winners, artists mix with technicians, locals mix with international participants, and people of all abilities learn from one another."
The week-long filmmaking experiment will pair 4 established British directors with local filmmakers, actors and crew members (from absolute beginners to industry professionals). Guest directors from the UK will mentor local teams and infuse the workshop with their own perspectives, skills and culture.
AN INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE PROJECT
Thanks to the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care and the City of Sydney, KINO KABARET is making itself accessible to people with a disability. Access services such as wheelchair taxis and Auslan interpretation will be made available as needed. Participants will work in the fully-accessible KINO LAB, fitted with cameras and editing stations, hosted by Metro Screen in Paddington’s Town Hall.
Ngozi Ugochuckwu is one of the workshop leaders invited to Sydney for Kino Kabaret UK. As a founder of Kino in Manchester, England, she will bring her expertise and experience to Australia for this unique event. “I’m excited to take part in Kino Kabaret and look forward to meeting the Australian participants and shooting films in gorgeous Sydney. As a wheelchair user I am particularly thrilled that the event will be made accessible to people with a disability”.
