Extra Audio Description Screening at 55th Sydney Film Festival revealed
Sydney Film Festival have just announced the new Australian documentary River of No Return will have an audio described screening on Saturday 21 June, 12.30pm at the State Theatre.
River of No Return (Australia - 52 mins)
In Darlene Johnson's absorbing documentary the vivacious Frances Djulibing describes her upbringing in the remote community of Nagalala in north-eastern Arnhem Land. She applies to study acting at the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts and calls Phillip Noyce and Rolf de Heer for advice: 'It's a hard road being an actor', says Phil. That doesn't worry Frances, she's more troubled by the balanda (white man's) paperwork and the thought of leaving her country. She wants to stay with her grandchildren and teach them proper culture, but she wants to act, just like Marilyn, too. 'As a child I always wanted to become an actress just like Marilyn Monroe. I was told it was ridiculous for a Yolngu girl to have such fantasies, but I knew it was sign when I was cast as the second wife Nowalingu in Ten Canoes.' Audio described session screens Saturday 21 June, 12.30 pm, State Theatre, 49 Market Street, Sydney.
